how am i going to be an optimist about this?
[Almost as soon as the trial lets out, Tarrlok kind of... tears off to the kitchen, because he's mildly concerned that he's going to experience an adrenaline crash before he even starts cooking, and so he begins! He starts on some tea, marinating some beef for kebabs... but he feels like he's forgetting something...
...
OH SHIT. HE FORGOT TO PUT NOTES OUT OKAY FUCK HANG ON LET HIM REHASH SOMETHING HE THOUGHT WAS FUNNY AND SHOVE IT UNDER PEOPLE'S DOORS BEFORE ANYTHING BURNS]
FOOD IN EAT PLACE
[okay whew he makes it back to the kitchen. And so does Yuri at some point, actually! So... Tarrlok will be getting kebabs ready for everyone, since he was hungry for them, Yuri confirmed, and Cabanela said he'd have whatever he'd have. Speaking of, Cabanela shows up to make some chicken soup! And Yuri makes curry, teriyaki chicken, and steamed vegetables. So there's a little something for everyone. The food that gets put out isn't super fancy, but it's nice, and there's tea just like Elda wanted.
So have at, then!]

Hello to you too, Yuri.

Good to see you're bright eyed and energetic as always. So, how's your arm?
no subject
The good news is that it doesn't have to be amputated. The bad news is that Rideaux wouldn't give me alcohol. And the better news is that some of the stuff here is even stronger than alcohol.
[Not heroin-strong, but it'll do.]
no subject
[ ... ]
Did you piss him off or something? Or is it just some doctor thing?
[ Yuri is still used to healing artes being a thing or gels. But having alcohol to help soothe over the pain when you had neither is a thing he's familiar with.
... He's not sure what to do with the rest of what Luca had said so he'll ask about that in a bit. ]
no subject
[Seemingly satisfied with what he has seen of the envelope, Luca sets it down in his lap. Then he motions for Yuri to come a little closer.]
no subject
[ After that little bit of teasing, Yuri will shift a bit closer.
His expression turns to something serious as a ... emotion of some sort comes over his eyes, but seems to fade away, making it difficult to discern what it is. ]
...It's good you came out with just this too, you know.
[ Yuri is not going to admonish Luca for it - he was about to do the same thing. Right now, he is just showing his way of having been concerned. ]
no subject
If Yuri is close enough, Luca is going to reach out with his good hand for one of Yuri's hands. He's not normally so touchy-feely, but today really shook him up and having a physical reminder that he's still alive is nice.]
Of course I came out of that with just a little scratch. A knight came running after me.
[Kyrie had pretty much given up by that point, but it doesn't change the fact that Luca absolutely expected to die there and Yuri ran into a dangerous situation to try and help him. That is a kindness he will never forget.]
no subject
Part of him had been honestly afraid that Luca would die. If the man had died, he never would've forgiven himself. ]
Oh, I'm a knight now? Careful you'll be reminding me of my harrowing days in the Imperial Knights.
no subject
Well you certainly act like one, rushing off into a dangerous situation to rescue someone else. Especially when the smarter thing to do would have been to run in the other directions and ensure the vote went to Kyrie. I probably should scold you for that, you know. Everything turned out alright, but you really should have gone the other way to ensure the survival of the others. My life isn't worth seven others.
no subject
Though... ]
Whatever. Personally, I don't think you should've done anything. You should've just stayed put, because I was about to do the same thing you did, and the difference between me and you is that you're not really all that much of a combatant.
[ That's. Probably not the response Luca wanted to hear, but he sounds kind of annoyed when he's saying it if anything. He's still kind of still. Very upset so he may be missing logic here. ]
Besides, you can't convince me otherwise that making sure you didn't die wasn't the right decision.
no subject
...no, I suppose I can't. Even if I had accepted my death, that didn't mean that I actually wanted to die. I just thought...mmm, I thought that someone had to do it. Someone had to take that risk, to try and save everyone. And it isn't right of me to ask someone else to take that risk and not be willing to do it myself.
But you. You...
[His hand might be tightening around Yuri's, and his voice is cracking a little.]
You came back for me. You didn't have to, but you did.
Nobody's ever done anything even remotely like that for me before.
no subject
There's a warm smile, and he gives the hand clasped around Luca's a squeeze - one that's meant to be comforting. ]
Yeah? I'd have done it all over again in a heartbeat.
[ Luca knows him well enough that he's serious about it too. ]
no subject
But why? Why would you do that for me? I haven't done aything to deserve that kindness from you.
no subject
What the the hell? Why're you sayin' crap like that all of a sudden?
no subject
[He makes a frustrated noise and pulls Yuri towards him. He can't exactly hug him right now with only one working arm, but he'said going to lean forward to drop his head on Yuri's shoulder with a soft 'thunk'.]
Just- shut up. Unless you're about to say something particularly moving or romantic, shut up.
no subject
Even if ... this isn't really a hug, per say. ]
I'm not a romantic kind of guy, you know. Neither am I good with anything actually moving.
[ ... ]
But, you really wanna hear why I think you'd deserve that? Even knowing that?
no subject
Luca doesn't respond verbally, but he nods into Yuri's shoulder. He's been avoiding the question for weeks now, because for once in his life he's actually afraid of the answer. But he needs to know. The end is coming, either by escape or by death, and he needs to know.
He's always hado an insatiable curiosity, after all. ]
no subject
You're not afraid to do what you believe you have to do in order to help people you know and don't know very well. If you didn't give a crap about other people I wouldn't bother thinking about even wasting my time with you.
[ That's. A start. ]
There's a ton of other crap too but putting it into words would just take forever. So, the other thing is connected with the first one. You helping other people, that is, but I mean this time for me.
When I was having a hard time you checked up on me, and you took time to try to do your best to make sure I was doing alright. And - damnit Luca, doesn't it already make sense that you'd deserve that kindness? You're not a piece of crap who deserves to die and you're one of the people I've managed to even get close to. So obviously it makes sense for me to do something like that, no matter how many times I'd have to do it!
[ Ugh okay that was less planned than he imagined it, but whatever. It's fine. ]
no subject
What Yuri says does help, too. Luca does feel like he's been a piece of shit so far in his life: selfish, only looking out for himself, not caring about how his actions hurt others, stuff like that. Trying to help is a pretty recent thing for him, which is why he feels like he doesn't deserve a pat on the back for it yet: it's a change, but not a habit yet. He doesn't deserve praise for trying one time, it needs to be a constant change.
After all of that, he speaks up once more, tilting his head to the side a bit so Yuri can actually hear him.]
I wasn't trying to die, you know. I knew of the risks, but the rewards seemed worth it.
[That. That is a point he feels is important to make.]
no subject
...So, you know. Just for reference, to make this even more hilarious. ]
Well, yeah. I figure you weren't trying to get yourself killed. But what you said pissed me off - the part where you said you didn't think you deserved kindness anyway, and that was in the context of 'saving your ass if it had to be done it again'. Anyway, don't go saying that you're not worth it, because you are.
no subject
Well, he's starting to get there at least. Being in a game full of idol girls and shounen protags has definitely changed him for the better.
Also, he's lifting his head up off of Yuri's shoulder now, because he's going to give him a look. And he opens his mouth like he is about to argue with Yuri, but then he stops. His mouth closes, and instead Yuri gets a wry smile.]
It's a good thing that i am so fond of you, or I might have been tempted to continue arguing that point.
no subject
[ ... ]
Well, I'm glad you're not gonna argue against it. I'd have to bring open the floodgates and argue until my face is blue or some stupid crap like that. I'm not in the mood for doing any of that right now, you know?
[ Anyway, he'll look at Luca right there. ]
You gonna need help with getting around, or are you gonna be fine with doing that yourself?
no subject
[He would rather sleep off his irritation and be better able to handle his emotions in the morning. He's a little high-strung right now, if it wasn't obvious.]
And it's my arm that's hurt, Yuri, not my leg. I can walk just fine. Unless you plan to give it a kiss and make it all better, or whatever it is the magic in your world can do?
no subject
[ ... Honestly, this is really the night to be getting some good sleep.
... ]
By the way, the magic in my world doesn't work like that.
no subject
Yes, I know what you meant. I wouldn't say no to some help preparing meals, honestly. It's a little harder to cook with only one working arm.
[The other one technically works, but he needs to rest it for at least a couple days.
For the next bit, though, he turns a bit cheeky.]
And I think you underestimate the healing power of kisses. Men on their death beds have been rejuvenated by them before, and I hear that a kiss will wake up a sleeping maiden, or even turn a frog back into a prince.
